Description

This 6-week webinar series will assist SNF providers in effectively designing and implementing a QAPI program in the nursing facility setting.  Participants will gain the skills needed to improve quality nursing care and quality of life of nursing facility residents through emphasis on identification of facility-specific opportunity areas and dynamic performance improvement activities. Participants will gain knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of QAPI program activities and interdisciplinary team participation. 

August 15 – Fundamental Components of a QAPI Program 

            Course Description: This session explores the foundational elements of a Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program, covering the fundamentals, regulatory requirements, and survey expectations.

            Objectives: 

  • Understand the core components of a QAPI program.
  • Identify regulatory requirements pertinent to QAPI implementation.
  • Recognize survey expectations related to QAPI processes.

August 22 – QAPI Program Design and Scope 

            Course Description: Participants will learn about designing and defining the scope of a QAPI program, including creating a supportive culture, laying program foundations, and conducting self-assessments.

            Objectives:

  • Establish a culture conducive to QAPI efforts withing their facility.
  • Develop foundational structures for a QAPI program.
  • Define the scope of QAPI tailored to their facility’s needs.
  • Conduct effective self-assessments to evaluate QAPI program efficacy.

August 29 – QAPI Governance & Leadership 

            Course Description: This session delves into the governance and leadership aspects of QAPI, including governing body responsibilities, forming leadership teams, and understanding key roles withing the QAA committee.

            Objectives:

  • Identify the responsibilities of governing bodies in QAPI implementation.
  • Formulate effective QAPI leadership teams.
  • Articulate the key roles and responsibilities of the QAA committee.
  • Apply fundamental leadership principles to QAPI initiatives.

September 5 – QAPI Feedback, Data Systems & Monitoring 

            Course Description: Participants will explore strategies for utilizing feedback, establishing data systems, and monitoring processes within a QAPI framework.

            Objectives: 

  • Obtain and leverage feedback to facilitate improvement within their facility.
  • Establish robust data collection and monitoring systems.
  • Prioritize and analyze facility-specific data to drive improvement efforts.
  • Identify gaps and opportunities for improvement through systematic analysis.

September 12 – QAPI Performance Improvement Projects 

            Course Description: This session focuses on developing effective corrective actions, considerations for establishing PIPs, and sustaining improvements over time within a QAPI framework.

            Objectives:

  • Develop actionable corrective actions to address identified areas for improvement.
  • Design and implement performance improvement projects (PIPs) effectively.
  • Implement strategies to sustain improvements achieved through PIPs.

September 19 – QAPI Systemic Analysis & Systemic Action 

            Course Description: The final session explores systemic analysis and action within the QAPI context, including systems thinking, root cause analysis, and evaluating corrective actions.

            Objectives:

  • Apply systems thinking principles to analyze systemic issues withing their facility.
  • Utilize the root cause analysis process to identify underlying causes of problems.
  • Evaluate and monitor corrective actions to address systemic issues effectively.

Target Audience: Facility leadership, Nursing Home Administrators, Director of Nursing, Department Managers

CEUS: One (1) contact hour each session; NAB approved through Proactive LTC Consulting.
