This course will review basic anatomy and physiology of the skin, identify pressure ulcer staging according to NPIAP guidelines, review standards of care and evidence based practice in the areas of wound assessment, wound bed preparation, stages of healing, prevention, nutritional and laboratory considerations, treatment methods and modalities, management of chronic wounds, arterial, venous, and neuropathic wounds and treatment options, review components for accurate wound documentation and discuss multidisciplinary care approaches to wound care. This course provides a great review as well as sets the stage to enhance the attendee's knowledge base to provide better clinical outcomes in skin and wound management using evidence-based practice. Although this course sets the stage for improved clinical outcomes through training and support. While it is not a "Wound Certification Course", (defined as a course that confers designation of "Initials" after strict requirements of prolonged advanced education, proficiency checks, and competency examinations as well as follow up renewals with CEU etc.) the attendee will receive a certificate of attendance which can be provided as proof of attendance and educational in-servicing and will leave feeling confident in acquiring increased knowledge with the ability to confidently apply that knowledge to their practice. 


The presenter, Cathy Young, is an RN and is board certified in Gerontology (ANCC) as well as a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator. In addition, she is Wound Care Certified (WCC), QAPI certified professional (QCP), RAC-CT/RAC-CTA (MDS certification), DNS Certified (AAPACN), an Infection Prevention Control Officer, and a Legal Nurse Consultant. Cathy will provide education, materials, and support that the attendee can utilize to improve clinical outcomes, manage resources, improve skill sets, reduce liability, and meet regulatory requirements.
