Join us as Ellen Buettner-Wolf speaks about organizational culture.

Summary:
Organizational culture is shaped not only by an organization’s stated values, but by the quality of communication that occurs every day. This session explores the critical relationship between leadership, communication and organizational culture in organizations, with an emphasis on long-term care providers. Participants will examine how communication confidence—the combination of an employee’s willingness to speak up and their confidence that doing so will lead to meaningful action—influences employee engagement, ethical decision-making, and organizational performance in environments where early reporting of concerns can directly affect resident safety, regulatory compliance, and workforce retention. Drawing from organizational communication research and practical leadership experience, this session introduces the Communication Confidence Index™ (CCI) as a framework for assessing communication culture and identifying barriers that prevent employees from raising concerns, sharing ideas, or reporting problems. Participants will leave with practical strategies to strengthen communication systems, foster trust, and build cultures where employees feel empowered to contribute to organizational success.

Upon completion of this two-hour, interactive session, participants will be able to:

1. Explain the relationship between organizational communication and organizational culture, and describe how these factors influence quality of care, employee engagement, ethical decision-making and organizational effectiveness.

2. Identify organizational and leadership factors that increase or decrease employees’ willingness and confidence to speak up about concerns, opportunities and ethical issues.

3. Apply the Communication Confidence Index™ framework to self-assess communication strengths and gaps within participants’ own organizations and develop an action plan to improve communication confidence by strengthening leadership behaviors and communication processes that encourage employee voice.
